I would like to thank year 6 for a terrific half term, they have worked really hard and deserve a break but if they get bored there’s always reading, x tables and Spag.com to keep them going…
and to parents / carers thanks for your support over the past few weeks.
What have year 6 been doing?
Well it’s not all English and Maths, here are some of the things we’ve been up to:
- Trip to Robinwood
- Afternoon out to the Safety Exhibition at Uppermill Civic Hall
- A visit from fire officers to talk about keeping safe on bonfire night
- Theatre production -Mr Shapeshifter
- Reverend Lindsay to talk about Methodism
- Mandarin lessons and Chinese paper folding by a visiting teacher from Saddleworth school
- Weekly PE lessons from Sports Development and a ten week PE module ‘Physical Literacy’ delivered by a specialist teacher from Manchester United
as well as
and art in th style of Picasso
The ideal gift (perhaps)… practice SAT papers for May’s tests. The deadline was originally set for tomorrow (20th October) but we can extend that deadline to Friday 4th November.
Multiplication with algebra i.e. expanding brackets
(2(3b + 4) = 6b + 8
Well done to Amy Richardson who is our student of the week. Amy approaches all her work with enthusiasm and even asks for extra homework!
Elijah Pomfrey is in good work for his brilliant self-portrait in the style of Picasso. Well done Elijah.
Latest: area including formulae e.g. L x w = area of rectangle, 1/2 base x height = area of triangle
Year 6 had a visit from the fire service yesterday to talk about keeping safe on bonfire night. They were also going to learn about safety in the home when the firemen had to leave promptly on an emergency call.
Student of the week – well done to Zaynab Yousaf for her excellent work in class and for the effort she puts into her homework.
Good work – Alex Wood for writing
I have to cancel this week’s Higher Maths session as I shall be at a headteachers’ meeting in Blackburn on Tuesday. It will happen as usual on Tuesday 18th.
Multiplication of fractions e.g. 2/3 x 1/4 = 2/12 or 1/6
(This was only for the children not needing more practice at the earlier work.)
I do think ordering a set of the SATs papers from Miss Light will be useful- extra practice of the standard Year Six work is good for all of our children, including those taking a G.C.S.E.
Thursday 6th October 2016
Student of the week – Dylan Bradley
Good work assembly – Ben Cook for maths
