Local history

Local history

As part of our Local History topic we have been learning about Annie Kenney, who was a local suffragette from Springhead.  She used to work in Leesbrook Mill when it was a cotton mill.  We walked there this morning to look at the plaque which commemorates her achievements.

Yawning in school

Yawning in school

The hot weather can make sleep difficult, I know. The temperatures are expected to drop over the coming days, however I thought I should share NHS recommendations of how much sleep children generally need:

https://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Childrenssleep/Pages/howmuchsleep.aspx

Following these recommendations would mean, with a 7 a.m. wake up time, sleep times for children as follows. (15 minutes reading first may mean going to bed a little earlier than this).

11 year olds: 9.30 p.m.

10 year olds: 9.15 p.m.

9 year olds: 9 p.m.

8 year olds: 8.45 p.m.

7 year olds: 8.30 p.m.

6 year olds: 8.15 p.m.

5 year olds: 8 p.m.
