Attendance Prizes

Attendance Prizes

It is long established that good attendance, of course, helps a good education. To encourage good attendance habits, Hey with Zion is again offering a summer prize draw for all children with a good attendance level. This year, the aspirational target in 97%.

All children who achieve 97% attendance over the course of the school year will enter a draw where they can win a £40 Smyths toy shop voucher: there will be one prize for the younger half of the school, one prize for Key Stage Two.

GCSE Maths

GCSE Maths

Last week we looked at a first example of a Maths exam paper (above). It was the non calculator one, so there’s a fair bit of overlap between this and Year Six work. Today, we’ll be looking at a calculator paper:

As well as familiarising ourselves with the kind of things expected, we did a bit of revision:

  • a little algebra, from a + 4 = 7 what is a?, to
  • 3b -6 = 9 what is b? and
  • If c = 6, what is 4c -5? (It’ll become harder e.g.
  • 3d + 4 = 5d – 1, what is d?
  • We revised mean, median, mode and range
  • calculated probabilities as fractions e.g. if there are 3 red balls, 5 greens and 2 brown the probability of drawing a red is 3/10
  • calculated different probabilities as adding to 1.0 e.g. the probability of a football team winning is 0.7, of drawing 0.2 therefore the probability of losing is 0.1 (0.7 + 0.2 + 0.1= 1.0)
  • the links between fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio e.g. if there are 2 green sweets and 3 purple sweets the fraction of sweets which are green is:
  • 2/5 = 0.4 = 40% and the ration of green : purple = 2:3
  • we looked at y = x + 2 graphs etc-
  • (We’ll come to tables of values in a few weeks) and we began to look at calculating missing angles in a shape, using knowledge that:
  • the sum of angles in a triangle is 180 degrees
  • the sum of angles in a quadrilateral is 360 degrees
  • angles on a straight line add to 180 degrees
  • opposite angles are equal
  • F and Z angles to follow (corresponding and alternate angles):

Hey with Zion Christmas Fair

Hey with Zion Christmas Fair

The staff of Hey with Zion are organising a Christmas Fair for all the children, to be held on Friday 7th December, in order to raise funds for our school. Father Christmas himself will be visiting, the school choir will be performing, there will be stalls, raffles, games, a toy and book stall, craft stalls, a tombola. There will be lots to do and buy to get us all into the Christmas spirit.

We shall be having a non uniform day on Friday 30th November, with children invited to bring chocolate for the tombola or a bottle for the raffle (if the contents involve alcohol please can this be handed by an adult direct to the school office, NOT delivered by a child. Thank you.) I feel we are asking quite frequently for contributions- for Gambia, for the Methodist harvest appeal and now this, but I am sure you will all agree that hosting a Christmas Fair is a good experience for our children.

We shall also welcome donations of cakes and buns on 7th December; for health and safety reasons relating to allergies these will only be sold to adults.

Thank you for any help you are able to provide.
